Refocusing After Setbacks

Friday, October 31st, 2008

How many times have you started a diet, tried something new and then a setback occurs and you just go back to the way you were? Don’t worry, you are not the only one! Setbacks and difficulties occur all of the time-they are a natural part of life. There are however two ways of facing difficulties. You either change or alter the activity itself or you can alter yourself to be able to deal with it. If you deal with difficulties correctly it will enhance your confidence. If you deal with them incorrectly by allowing them to guide where you go, it can do some damage to your self worth. When you are faced with any setback, your ability to deal with it can be turned around into a position of strength by asking yourself some empowering questions. If after a setback you ask yourself something like “Why does this always happen to me, I never have any luck?”, your mind will probably come out with “Because you are useless and good things do not happen to you”. Sound familiar? Instead, if you ask yourself a positive question like “What did I learn from this setback for next time?”, your mind will kick into solution mode and help. Again, we will all be faced with setbacks and disappointments in life, that is part of life. What will set you apart from the rest however is how you deal with it and move on. Either let the setback control you and your behaviors, or you control your thoughts and behaviors to the unfortunate situations that leap into your life every now and then.

ACTION STEPS FOR THE WEEK:

1. Acknowledge when it happens

Acknowledge when it happens to you, don’t hide from it. These things happen, so what? What questions can you ask yourself when it happens? How can I make most of this situation? What can I learn from it? What tools can I take with me next time something like this happens again? Begin the awareness phase this week.

2. These occur to even the best of us

Acknowledge that setbacks occur to everyone, and that you are not being singled out. Do you believe Tiger Woods never had a bad game? Did he give up and assume he wasn’t cut out for golf? Of course not! He learned from his mistakes and used those to his advantage next time.

3. List old thoughts and replace them

Think about the negative disempowering thoughts that you think on a regular basis after a setback. List the thoughts that typically come to mind when you are faced with setbacks. What new empowering questions could you ask yourself to give some better answers? List the new thoughts to begin replacing the old ones with. Write these down now and make them a habit.

Have a great week!

Omega 3 Fish Oil – The Evidence

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Omega 3 fatty acids are known to be beneficial to health in a number of ways, and scientific evidence is accumulating to back up the beliefs of those who have taken it for years (in the form of fish oil). Some scientists believe that, as well as reducing the risk of sudden cardiac death, Omega 3 can improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels. They can also reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by keeping the heart healthy.

The evidence suggesting that Omega 3 fatty acids prevent heart disease is of several scientific types: epidemiological evidence and archeological evidence support the claim, as well as evidence from animal studies, observation studies, and interventional studies.

Epidemiological evidence

Studying populations to determine frequency and distribution of disease is known as epidemiology. Alaskan natives as well as Eskimos in Greenland and Japanese people in fishing villages have been found by scientists to have low rates of sudden cardiac death and of cardiovascular disease – this is attributed to the large amount of fish in their daily diet.

Archeological evidence

Our early Paleolithic ancestors were, according to archaeological evidence, very fit and free of coronary heart disease. Their healthiness was due partly to the active lifestyle of the hunter-gatherer, which required that they exert themselves on a daily basis in order to survive (to gather food and protect themselves from harm). Diet also played an important role. They ate natural foods which contained a great deal of fruits, vegetables, nuts, lean protein, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, and Omega 3 fatty acids. At this time they would have consumed few saturated fats, no trans fats, and no refined grains and sugars. This contrasts sharply with the modern diet which usually includes a lot of processed food.

The undomesticated animals eaten in the Paleolithic period were also very different from those we eat today. Then, the meat would be rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, since the animals would graze on vegetation and algae which was itself rich in Omega 3. Our domesticated animals are fed on grain and corn, making the meat high in saturated fat but low in Omega 3 fatty acids. The same goes for farmed fish, which is usually lower in Omega 3 than wild fish.

Modern people lead more sedentary lives than the hunter-gatherers, despite the fact that we are genetically designed to be active in the way that they were. Our diets have a high quotient of saturated fats and trans fats, as well as grains and refined sugars. Such diets do not have a high level of Omega 3 fatty acids which are known to be beneficial to health. This combination of low activity and high intake of the wrong foods leads to such problems as high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary heart disease, as well as contributing to the epidemic of obesity.

Animal studies

When scientists performed experiments on dogs, rats and marmosets, they found that Omega 3 fatty acids could prevent ventricular fibrillation when given to animals just before heart attacks were induced – this prevented sudden death. Omega 3 was also found to halt ventricular fibrillation once it had started. This suggests there is a strong possibility Omega 3 fatty acids could work to avert ventricular fibrillation in heart attacks in humans.

Evidence from observational studies

The Nurses’ health study and the Physicians’ health study are large, long-term observational studies examining the relationship between dietary intake of fish oil or Omega 3 fatty acids, and the risk of sudden cardiac death and heart disease. The Physicians’ study began in 1982, and followed over 20,000 healthy male physicians for 11 years. They filled out questionnaires on lifestyle and diet at 12 months and 18 months, having given data on lifestyle, diet and coronary risk factors at the study’s commencement. In 1998 the results were published in JAMA (vol. 279, pg. 23) under the title ‘Fish Consumption and Risk of Sudden Cardiac Death’. The findings show that men eating one or more fish portions a week had a 50% lower risk of developing sudden cardiac death, compared with men who ate fish less than once a month.

Conclusion

There are reams of evidence which shows the benefits of a correct balance of Omega 3 in daily diet, and more is accumulating all the time.

Learn About Wine Storage Racks For Home and Commercial Venues

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Modern wine storage racks serve many different purposes. They have become more then a mere storage unit for your wine. Now they also serve as a focal point, or as a unique piece of art, which adds sophistication to any setting. Beautiful as well as useful, wine storage racks have gained popularity not only with the individual connoisseur, but also in the commercial setting.

All wine enthusiasts know that the proper care and storage of the bottle is essential in preserving the tannins or taste of the wine and that is why they own a wine storage rack. Without proper storage, the wine can begin to break down, and lose much of its distinct original flavor. The wine storage rack is the answer to proper storage. Moreover, depending on the rack design, multiple bottles can be displayed without utilizing any surface area than a single bottle!

As the wine storage racks built for private use, commercial wine racks have also morphed into elegant displays. Many restaurants prominently display their racks behind the bar, whereas wine racks predominantly were kept behind closed doors. Commercial wine racks can serve multiple purposes. They are very efficient and safe for storing unopened bottles of wine. In addition, they are aesthetically pleasing and a sale point to the customer.

A well placed wine rack acts as its own menu. The customer can see the selection, thus creating an increase in sales, since most purchases are made by an attraction. The commercial wine rack helps market the wine itself thru this attraction. With the proper wine storage rack, labels on bottles are easily visible, selection is obvious and quantity is easy to ascertain.

Wine storage racks are a great addition to any wine enthusiasts abode, whether to be used at home or in a restaurant for commercial purposes. They are both functional and decorative. Both individual wine racks and commercial wine racks are customizable. They are no longer just a stack of square boxes, but come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes to suit any need or desire. Wine storage racks ensure proper storage for your wine. They are convenient to use, and a great value for your money.

Camps for Adolescents and Teens

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Behavior Outdoor intervention programs have been growing in popularity and variety tremendously for the past 10 years. Terms like boot camps, outdoor behavior programs, wilderness programs, wilderness camps, and wilderness boot camps are being used by programs without clear distinction, definition or meaning. Programs are essentially free to call themselves whatever they want. Parent’s understanding of these programs is becoming distorted and uncertain. Parents looking for an unrealistic quick fix to their adolescent’s or teen’s behaviors, especially over the summer months, usually choose and search on the Internet for what are known as troubled teen camps.

There are two types of adolescent and teen camps: boot camps and summer or wilderness camps. They usually last from 21 days to 3 months, and while adolescents may shows signs of improvement for days or even weeks after coming home, they most often revert back to old behaviors after the temporary fear of authority disappears.

Boot Camp programs trace their origins to the juvenile justice system where they were created as an alternative to juvenile hall and youth authority camps.

Adolescents participated in military-like training programs, usually against their will or as a “persuaded” voluntary alternative to the youth authority system. The Boot Camp was embraced and funded by county and state criminal justice systems. As the boot camp appeal and demand grew, boot camps were next used as an intervention for teens that were getting into trouble at home and at school and those who were coming to the attention of local law enforcement. In the two to four years I have noticed a few boot camps claiming to treat adolescents with behavioral, emotional and psychological problems. Boot camps are military-style facilities that use discipline, fear of authority, military exercises, and rigorous physical training to transform a troubled teen into a “good soldier” who follows rules. Unfortunately, most boot camps do not address underlying behavioral or emotional problems.

When boot camps left their structural buildings and entered the outdoors they changed their identity to “wilderness boot camps”.

Boot camps have always had some attractiveness to parents and the juvenile justice system.

Wilderness boot camps not only retained the boot camp appeal but this blending of program concepts advanced their market appeal by incorporating the “healing power of the wilderness”.

However, at this point the wilderness boot camp became a new entity that had very little in common with a wilderness therapy program. In my experience wilderness therapy programs and a wilderness boot camp are separate and opposing treatment models.

Without experiential therapy which has proven to profoundly affect teens with issues such as ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s, learning differences, obesity, or behavioral problems, long-term effectiveness is very limited.

The behavioral and psychological philosophy of a boot camp needs to be understood and appreciated by any parent considering this intervention.

Boot camps are designed to quickly achieve compliance, control, and obedience to authority. The tools employed include subjecting people to severe physical hardship as well as emotional and psychological trauma that is intended to strengthen resolve under pressure and break opposition and defiance. Boot camps use psychological punishment including aggressive gesturing and challenges, bullying, intimidation, threats, and verbal abuse.

Positive behavior is rewarded and unwanted behavior is punished. Physical punishment might include corporal punishment, depravation, and isolation, loss of privileges, exhausting exercise, and work details. Adolescents in many programs are hazed in a manner that is now (supposedly) forbidden in a military boot camp.

Whatever you might think about corporal punishment, these approaches have been shown to produce quick changes in outward behavior.

Teens invariably change their behavior in some way when the alternative is frightening or painful. However, the consequences of severe punishment can also include long term psychological and behavioral problems.

When parents do chose to send their troubled adolescent to a boot camp, the best chance for long-term success is to follow it with a residential therapeutic treatment program. In my opinion, wilderness camps are seen as a much better option to boot camps, especially for children with ADD or ADHD. Adolescents and teens with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder often benefit highly from wilderness programs.

Why is this? The need for focused attention on challenging tasks in a controlled group setting allows ADD kids to hone not only their skills of concentration, but their social skills. The group experience, when facilitated by experienced counselors, allows ADHD kids to learn how to better interpret feedback from their peers and adjust their behavior appropriately. Parents of kids with ADHD know that schedules and structure help these adolescents and teens thrive. Instead of the aggressive approach that boot camps tend to use, wilderness camps are offer emotional growth and self-esteem components while also working with the teen on their particular behaviors while in a safe outdoor program with trained wilderness staff and therapists. They remove city, inner-city, rural and urban distractions so troubled adolescents and teens can reconnect and accept responsibility for their choices.

The assurances and integrity of services offered by wilderness programs does vary a great deal. Some programs are licensed and regulated as outdoor treatment and wilderness programs. Others are state regulated as chemical dependency and mental health treatment programs.

Wilderness camps are year round and some include an academic component.

Their focus is not on academics; however, the adolescent can earn credits that can be applied, which is especially important for those who have fallen behind during the school year.

Wilderness therapy, in the purest form, is a positive growth experience where adolescents and teens face natural challenges and adversities that are designed to be therapeutic in nature. Adolescents are not merely thrown into the wilderness and made to suffer hardships.

They are removed from their environment, encouraged, challenged and given every opportunity to succeed.

Wilderness therapy programming is overseen by licensed medical and mental health professionals who have experience and training in experiential education, behaviorism as well as group and interpersonal therapy.

The wilderness is seen as a place of safety. It is a place where they can look at their life and consider what they were doing, what they were thinking, how that made them feel, what they want and what they are willing to do to make that happen.

The wilderness is a place to take action where initiative is naturally rewarding. Adolescents begin to change naturally when they are removed from environments filled with harmful and negative influences and triggering events that produce reckless, self-defeating, or self-destructive behavior. They enter the wilderness on a journey of self-discovery. When teens become involved in routines that are logical and necessary in nature, the natural result is to help each other, communicate, develop relationships, reveal their problems, face the consequences of their behavior and discover their hidden potential.

They discover their true feelings as well as more realistic hopes and dreams. It is a time of discovery, reflection, and building new skills.

Rather than become angry, annoyed, irritated, outraged or mad, adolescents become assertive, self-assured, and self-confident.

Instead of hiding their feelings, they ask for help and talk to people they trust. Instead of rushing around, they learn to listen to others and be patient. In those moments when they are alone watching a sunrise or sunset (and not spending hours on the Internet or watching TV), adolescents discover their true self. When they are frightened and scared of their feelings, they become brave and courageous instead of wounded souls. Parents who have teens heading down the “wrong path” will often see dramatic changes in their teen’s attitude, behavior, and motivation after a therapeutic wilderness camp or other alternative summer camp. Wilderness camps are temporary, with three to four months being the longest, so the best chance for long-term success is to follow it with a residential treatment program. This will supplement and reinforce the treatment adolescents and teens receive at camp. The best wilderness and summer camps have a high ratio of field instructors or counselors to students. This makes the experience the most rewarding, because no student can be “lost in the crowd.”

Safety needs to be your top consideration when you evaluate programs on your own.

Ask the right questions – and many questions – before sending your adolescent or teen to any program.

Universities now provide earned degrees in experiential education – a discipline that is becoming a cornerstone in wilderness therapy programs. The philosophical, structural and programmatic differences between a wilderness therapy program and a boot camp program are, in my opinion, worlds apart.

Win The Best Buy Of Artworks On Internet

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The discouraging part of the art market is that most of the times you reach an art gallery, good artworks have already been given a banner “sold out”. In other instance, the offered selling price may be high but being a collector, you know that it worth buying. The demands for artworks like Oil Painting, Home décor craftworks, sculpture, wall hanging etc. has increased in recent year. Earlier art collectors were supposed to be the rich people of society but now days it has come into the trend. A hotel, home, restaurant, office, community hall, club, shopping mall, everyplace is getting more sophisticated with different looks.

Winning the best buy of an artwork is not an easy task and needs some prior readiness. Many of the top artists put their artworks on auction. But in this article, we will concentrate on buying artwork from Art Galleries or from Online Art Galleries and NOT from an auction.

1. Reason for buying an art:

Make up your mind before buying an artwork. As mentioned earlier, buying an artwork is completely different from buying a product. The reasons may be different from buyers to buyers. Some people buy because they are art collectors, some buy because of trends, some for style, some for decorating their home, hotels, restaurants etc and for many other reasons. Let the reason be anything. Be specific with your requirement to win the best buy for artworks like paintings, sculptures, craftworks etc.

2. Be informed about the upcoming Art Exhibitions:

Buyers simply hate “sold out” sticker kept near artwork in the art galleries. As a collector you might have felt that whatever you like in an exhibition are already sold out. Prior information about upcoming events will help you grab the best buy in an art exhibition. There are some good websites which keep you updated with this information. Many of the budding artists are finding Online Art Gallery very useful because it gives better return on investment and exposure. From buyer point of view an online art gallery is one of the best places to get the real offbeat art work from budding artists.

3. Creativity has no relation with artists name or fame:

Visiting an Art Gallery is a pleasant experience, unless you visit with an open mind. Many art collectors visit only top art galleries with a mindset that they are going to get some of the best creations. They are right up to some extent because top galleries keep only quality artworks. But, this is also a truth that creativity is not the property of top artists. Just take an example of an artist from Spain, Vincent Van Gogh. There were none to praise his paintings during his lifetime. But now his paintings are considered as priceless. You can get good artworks from anywhere. Many of the budding artists can not afford an exhibition in a good city but this does not mean that their creations are bad. It is suggested to keep the eyes open before buying good artworks. There are some websites which keep the art buyers or collectors updated with the current art exhibitions in the city and around the world. They provide online art galleries where art buyers can take a look for general ideas prior to buy.

4. Have a discussion with the artist:

Artist is the person who know his/her artwork more than anybody else therefore if possible, have a discussion with the artist before buying. Artists need not required to be present physically but telephones and e-mails has made communication very easy now days. Discussions help buyers in understanding the concept and idea behind that artwork. Further buyers may negotiate the price during discussions. There are incidents when a buyer expressed his opinion to the artist about the artwork which he was interested in. Buyer also expressed that he liked his art but the artwork does not come under his buying capacity. Surprisingly, artist has gifted that art to the buyer within minutes. Discussion helps a lot and that is for sure.

5. Quality and present condition of artwork:

Visiting an art gallery will help collectors see the artwork physically and hence collectors can judge the artwork in a better way. But in case of an online art gallery, seeing an artwork physically is difficult. However in most cases, artist community is fairer enough and mentions the present condition of their artwork honestly.

6. Trends:

Many collectors like to go with the current trends and keep themselves updated. It is good. But, how about going beyond the trend, i.e. creating a trend? So, buying offbeat artworks may be a better option and of course, it varies from buyers to buyers. Offbeat artworks have their own values attract more than commercial artwork.

7. Prices Vs Value:

Art prices verses Art value is an equation which only artists and collectors understand in most cases. Remember, quality costs and creativity costs even more.

8. Authenticity:

Always ask for the Authenticity Certificate from the seller because there are many reproductions available in the market. This will give you a feeling of being a proud owner of original artwork. Also ask for some technical data like year of creations, list of previous owners (if any) etc.

Best buy in Art depends on many other factors also but a little readiness will definitely help a collector to win the best buy of art.

Getting The Equipment Lease Flexibility Your Company Deserves

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

How would you like to have fewer hassles with your next business lease while significantly trimming costs? You can. In fact, getting better lease flexibility can easily trump getting the lowest lease rate. Here is how you can get superior lease flexibility while slashing overall leasing expense:

Lease Amount

First, make sure the lease allows you to include most of the equipment you intend to acquire. You will avoid negotiating another financing arrangement on the excluded equipment. Check that you can easily add more equipment to the lease as your needs change. The better lease arrangements provide for multiple lease schedules under a master lease or the ability to amend existing leases to make additions.

Payment Schedule

Getting a lease payment schedule that matches your company’s cash flow cycle is a big benefit in a lease arrangement. Many lessors are able to accommodate reasonable requests, subject to their own administrative constraints and their view of your company’s credit standing. Monthly and quarterly payments schedules are typical arrangements. Schedules that vary payments to accommodate cash flow seasonality are less typical, but you can negotiate such an arrangement in many cases.

Interim Rent

You can slash lease costs significantly by limiting interim rent. Interim rent is the rent you pay for daily use of equipment between the equipment acceptance and lease start dates. Interim rent can balloon lease pricing by arbitrarily extending the term of the lease (albeit by only days). The best approach is to schedule equipment delivery and acceptance toward the end of the month, to reduce the interim period. Another strategy is to negotiate a truncated period at the end of the lease such that the interim period and truncated period, together, total one monthly payment.

Upgrades

A flexible lease arrangement anticipates equipment upgrades. Usually, at the time of upgrade, the present value of rents associated with the upgrade can be combined with the present value of the remaining equipment rents to create a revised schedule.

Early Termination

Most leases do not provide for early termination. One way to achieve more flexibility is to have such a feature built into the lease. An amount consisting of the present value of the remaining rents plus a termination charge no greater than 3% to 5% should compensate the lessor for an early termination in most leasing arrangements.

End of Lease Options

Does the lease you are considering have flexible end-of-lease options? Here are several options that will make your lease more user-friendly: the right to return the equipment to the lessor without undue penalty or expense; the right to purchase the equipment at a fair or reduced price; and the right to continue leasing the equipment at a fair or reduced rent. Use of upper limits in fair market value purchase or rental options can greatly reduce potential costs at lease end. Beware, however. Lessors may insist on fair market value floors when they agree to upper limits.

Equipment Relocation

It may become necessary to relocate the equipment to another site during the lease term. Make sure the lease provides that equipment may be relocated without unreasonable penalties or charges, subject to notifying the lessor. Keep in mind that equipment relocation may create extra expense for the lessor, particularly if it is to be moved to another state or to multiple locations.

End-of-Lease Notice Period

Is there a sufficient notice period at the end-of-lease for you to indicate your desire to renew the lease, purchase the equipment or return the equipment? The notice period generally ranges from one to six months, with three months being typical. If you violate the notice period, the lease kicks into an automatic renewal period, usually one to six months. You should seek notice and automatic renewal periods that are short, to avoid unintended additional lease charges. If the lessor is unwilling to negotiate this provision, you can manage the situation by making sure the notice requirement is fulfilled within the allowed time.

Grace Periods

Lastly, look for flexibility in the grace periods associated with lease defaults. Typically, a lease will provide little or no grace period for rental payments. You can achieve greater flexibility by asking for a five to seven day grace period. Similarly, the non-payment obligations of the standard lease usually have a short grace period, typically less than ten days. You can gain superior flexibility by asking for a fifteen or twenty day grace period for these provisions.

Getting the lease flexibility that your firm deserves may require some skillful negotiating, but it is worth the effort. Be prepared for some give-and-take as you look for ways to save money and avoid future hassles. You can sign the lease that is put in front of you, or you can follow these easy tips and bring back a great lease deal.

How To Write A Resume

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

When you decide it’s time for a job – or even an internship – your first major step will be your resume. However, not just any resume will do. If you want your dream job, then you are going to have to supply your prospective employer with their dream resume. How do you create this resume? That’s exactly what this article is here to teach you.

Your first step is to identify all of your relevant information for the job you’d like to obtain. While many people are under the impression that including everything they’ve ever done is a great way to impress potential employers, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. In truth, the way to attract employers is to include only the information that is applicable to the job you’re applying for.

For this reason, you should be prepared to write more than one resume – that is, a different style for each type of job to which you’ll be applying. Once you’ve finished the first resume, it’s quite simple to create the rest, because you can use that first one as a template into which you can cut-and-paste all of the information that is relevant to the other jobs that interest you.

As you create that first resume, make sure that you include your information about the four key topics – volunteering, memberships, computer skills, other languages – no matter what job application you’ll be submitting.

Volunteering demonstrates your well-rounded nature and the fact that you are motivated to make an effort towards a goal that you believe in. If you need extra volunteering experience, participate in programs such as soup kitchens, or walking dogs at a pet shelter. Even a local tree planting or ravine cleanup can add to your volunteering experience, and will only take one day of your time.

Memberships are equally important, since they show your ability to apply yourself and get involved on an additional level. Memberships can include different associations that have applied to interests or jobs you have held, or even education-related memberships from your school days.

These days, nothing gets done without computers, so no matter what type of job you’ll be applying for, you need to demonstrate your computer knowledge and proficiency. List the computer experience you have, as well as your familiarity with specific programs and operating systems.

Showing your fluency in other languages is a sure way to give yourself an advantage over other candidates for your job. A second or third language will separate your from any other candidate who is otherwise equally qualified.

Once you have all of your information, it’s time to get it organized. This is often the tricky part because your resume shouldn’t be longer than one page if you truly want to make your statement and have it read. This can be done with careful wording in addition to the correct font and spacing choices. The point is to make everything fit while still being legible, clear, and accurate.

Your resume should be divided into four major sections: objective, experience, education, other skills/information. Within them, use action words such as team player, organized, executed, managed, and other attractive words. Don’t simply use an adjective for the sake of putting a word there. Every word must have meaning and purpose.

Once you’re done writing your resume, leave it for a day and then go back to it with a red pen. You’ll find that the time you’ve spent away from it will provide you with a fresh perspective. When you’re done your own editing, have someone else look at it and give you an honest opinion.

By taking the time to complete all of these steps carefully and accurately, you’re sure to have your prospective employer’s dream resume for your dream job.

Best Acne Treatments – Prevention and Cures Should Go Hand-in-Hand

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Acne is a skin condition that simply refuses to go away. It’s a nagging skin ailment that we commonly call pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, red or yellow spots, cystic nodules or scars. The acne prone age is between 12 and 25 years. But beware; it’s not just a teen trouble. Even in your 30s and 40s you may get acne attacks. Acne can cause lifelong scars, if left untreated. Hence, it is vital to be proactive about acne treatment, beginning right from home remedies. Acne treatment essentially involves the use of both preventive and curative products.

Preventive products

The natural way to keep off acne begins at home. If you wish to keep off acne, follow this home treatment attentively and be sure of great results.

- Keep your face spotless clean, by washing it often with a gentle anti-bacterial cleanser or some home-made natural product – Never use greasy, oil-based moisturizers – Never use products containing synthetic chemicals and vegetable oils – Keep your hair off your face – Never dig or touch scars – Keep skin pores unclogged with products containing sulfur plus resorcinol

However, pregnant women, kids and patients under some other medication, should consult a doc before they use such products.

Medication methods

The condition of your acne will determine the treatment options. Treatment also depends on the oil balance of your skin, your gender and your existing medications. The most proactive acne treatment is with topical products (gels, creams) containing Salicylic acid, Benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, tetracycline, erythromycin or a retinoid. Many times a combination of these products also works well.

Physicians also prescribe oral medications like antibiotics, hormones, and isotretinoins. Go for such acne treatment only after knowing the side effects.

Laser treatment

Laser treatment has completely cured many. Here the laser destroys the excess oil producing glands and removes scars. It is painless, harmless but costly. However, to get rid of the existing acne you need medication.

Cystic treatment

Acute cystic acne needs cystic treatments with Accutane or isotretinoin. But, there are side effects. Since most other treatments are not effective on cystic acne, these severe products are unavoidable. Chinese treatments

The Chinese method is a natural herbal acne treatment. They believe in getting to the root of the problem like liver ailments, emotional upsets, wind heat, damp heat, blood heat etc. “They even trace acne to reasons like a stagnant qi (energy). Their natural products do help many,” says dermatologist Dr Manela Humphrey. Peel power

TCA Peels are an easy, safe and affordable acne treatment. “They are also more effective than other clinic or spa-based treatments,” says salon specialist Mary Roberts. Peels were earlier available only through costly treatments by skin specialists, at US$ 500- 1000 per session. These same peels are now easily available at less than US$30. No prescriptions are required either.

Personal Goal Setting and Running Marathons

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Personal goal setting is a powerful tool you can use to bring yourself success, increasing both your confidence in yourself as well as increased respect from colleagues and family members. Unfortunately, personal goal setting can be tricky and is often challenging for people who are not used to organized their goals and tracking their achievements. For this reason, I wanted to write a few words on how to successfully set your goals and improve your lives.

Everyone who is serious about personal goal setting should think of life as a marathon: if you never have been in a marathon before, running to win is not only unrealistic, but also very frustrating and disappointing. But if the first time you race you run just to finish the course, then the next time you will be more prepared and will be able to finish in a better position than your initial marathon. Eventually, if you train and race enough, you will achieve a top ten position in the marathon. This principle applies on personal goal setting too: your first goals should be easy to achieve; the next goals should be a bit harder, and so on. Eventually, when you have “raced” enough, you will be able to easily achieve your more difficult goals, and of course the rewards will be all that more satisfying.

There is no point in setting goals that are too difficult to achieve! If you are not well prepared, then you will very likely fail, and that will be an ugly low blow to your self-confidence. After all, you can’t ask a man to build a house if you don’t teach him how to lay down a brick first. Like at school, successful personal goal setting is a step-by-step learning process where you think about what you did right and about what you did wrong, and thus you get better at doing it day by day.

If you have a big, lifetime personal goal, you should “chop it” into smaller goals, easier to achieve, and set a reasonable “deadline” to achieve it. That way, you will get rewards sooner, and your self-esteem and confidence in yourself will grow little by little. Besides, if you complete small daily goals you will complete larger goals without even noticing it!

Personal goal setting is all about patience and proactiveness. Patience will be useful when walking towards your long term goals one step at a time and proactiveness will help you to take real action for completing your every day goals. Success doesn’t happen all of a sudden: it takes planning and, most of all, action and decision. If you really want to success artistically, improve your career or enhance your lifestyle, then you should start getting serious about your personal goal setting.
