Dear Screenwriter – It Helps to Remember These Things

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

A script is not who you are.

Whether it ends up produced or not, it is not a reflection of your worth as a human being.

Repeat after me — even if OTHERS judge it as such, a script is not who you are. Period.

At most, it is just an inkling of the wonders that lurk within the folds of your infinite mind. It is a single drop from the mysterious endless ocean that is churning in you since the day you were born.”

(2)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

A script is a blueprint to construct a movie with. Don’t forget that.

Its ultimate purpose is to help an audience spend 90 to 120 minutes away from the daily grind, and hopefully feel elevated as well.

Hopefully they’ll feel better about themselves and life in general, even if they’ve just watched a horror flick. It’s therapy through pictures in motion.

A script is an invitation to entertainment and enchantment; not a do-or-die proposition. It is a wonderful thing to envision, write and enjoy but it is not the end of the world.

You should be ready and happy to BURN all your scripts and never touch your pen and keyboard again if, for example, it would help find cure for cancer.”

(3)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

1) The worst has already happened.

2) Even if you don’t write a single word — as Woody Allen put it so well — you’re not gonna get out of this alive.

3) So glue your bottom to that chair and finish that @#$*% script!”

(4)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

Being rejected is a future worry. It is not right here now, this very minute. It is not the past either.

Do not be afraid of being rejected by Hollywood because you are either in it, or you aren’t.

If you are in it, you’ve taken your licks and you’re still ticking. It means they could not reject you enough :-)

If you’re not in it, then how can anyone push you out of something that you’re not a part of?

Rejection is a feeling that only you can attach to yourself like a scar. Nobody else can do it for you.

If you don’t do it to yourself, it’ll never get done.

Adopt the anti-NIKE motto — Just Don’t Do It!”

(5)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

Do not feel bad for not having written the CHINATOWN or BODY HEAT or CASABLANCA because all movies are not CHINATOWN or BODY HEAT or CASABLANCA.

There are thousands and perhaps tens of thousands of movies that go straight to DVD, shown in all kinds of cable channels, PPV channels, on regular TV networks, hospitals, schools, conventions, membership organizations, hotels, in airplanes ships and buses, etc. and God knows where else.

In the near future we’ll all start to watch movies regularly on our cell phones, Internet sites, iPods, wristwatches and cameras, and perhaps may be on our toasters and refrigerators…

There are 3 BILLION people in India and China alone who’ll need tens of thousands of movies in the coming years.

Selling your scripts to any one of those outlets should make you very proud and satisfied as well. You do not need to win an Oscar for a theatrical-release feature to be happy as a professional screenwriter.”

(6)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

You must never regret if your scripts are overwritten, rejected, or changed or etc. because writing and marketing scripts are not the worst things that can happen to a human being, not by a long shot.

You have sold insurance, used cars, and waited tables for a living.

You have sold kitchen knives, orthopedic beds and Tupperware by going door-to-door.

You have worked as a journalist chasing after pompous VIPs and politicians for crumbs of news-worthy tid bits that were forgotten the minute they were published.

As a wise and sensitive person you are aware that as we speak people are losing life and limb in coal mines, ocean-going vessels, power plants, oil fields, and battlefields all over the world as a part of their regular day jobs.

Writing scripts is a blessing and a luxury, not the worst thing that can happen to anybody. Enjoy the privilege while you still can.”

(7)

“Dear Screenwriter, REMEMBER:

Your screenplays already make you very happy because you write them with great joy and enthusiasm. They are all the stuff that you would LOVE to watch on that big screen.

Actually, you’re writing them because you are frustrated that you can’t go and rent them from your favorite video rental store.

Hopefully one day soon they’ll also bring some money and recognition as well because you’d love to treat your loved ones to much better material things in life.

But even if you die leaving behind a hundred unproduced scripts, that would be a life spent very well. It already is.”

Everything You Need To Know About Construction Equipment Leasing…And How To Get It!

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

As a decision-maker in the construction industry, weighing all equipment acquisition options is a critical aspect of the job – especially given today’s fluid marketplace.

With construction equipment leasing you don’t have to worry about the overhead of the purchase while keeping your cash accessible. No matter how big or small your project you can always find leasing options from the financial institutions who specialise in this type of product. Plus, payments you make under an operating lease are tax deductible.

65% of the top businesses lease equipment, according to an ELA survey. The top reasons these businesses cite for leasing include consistent expenses in budget management, increased cash flow, and the ability to have the latest equipment.

As businesses prepare to compete and grow in a new millennium, many are searching for proven new ways to address their equipment financing needs. And the choice for an increasing number in construction is clear: equipment leasing.

If structured properly, as a “true” lease, construction equipment leasing has some very important tax benefits. The payments can be considered a rental resulting in a 100% expense write-off. At the end of the year you would simply total your payments and deduct them entirely as an expense. This is a much more rapid write-off than interest expense and depreciation.

Most leases do not have to be shown on your financial statement as a liability, since theoretically it is a contingent liability, and only has to be shown as a footnote. This keeps your financial statement from becoming overloaded with debt and is important if your bank lines require maintaining certain ratios.

The biggest benefit, however, is that you can get the most money with the least information…. Up to approx. $100,000 with a single page application!

For many in construction equipment leasing makes perfect sense. Especially when you consider the upside: Leasing allows you to keep your machine stock flexible. When your work changes, your machines can too.

It provides a planned schedule for equipment replacement, helping you run newer, up-to-date equipment so you’ll have less downtime. It generally requires smaller amounts of money up front and monthly payments on your construction equipment leasing are generally lower than installment payments, thus freeing up cash and increasing the liquidity of your assets. And it doesn’t lock you into a long-term commitment to purchase.

It would therefore be wise for any business executive to investigate the advantages to equipment leasing in order to make the best use of current financial resources.

Con Quimper has worked in the construction equipment industry and academia in South and Central America since 1986. His teaching and research interests focus on construction equipment, contract administration, and contract dispute resolution. He is a consultant to various companies in these areas. 7 Suggestions for a Teen Friendly Web Site (e-commerce news and statistics)

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

“Youth are leading the transition to a fully wired and mobile nation”

The Pew Internet & American Life Project issued a report entitled “Teens and Technology” on July 27, 2005. Some results of this polling data may be helpful to merchants who desire to market to this Internet hungry, and energetic group.

The data was collected through telephone interviews with a random sample of 1100 young people across the nation and was conducted by The Princeton Survey Research Associates, between October 26 and November 28, 2004. The results are considered accurate to a degree of + or – 3%.

Statistical Summary

* 87% of all those aged 12-17 in the United States are consistently online, or about 21 million young people. This is up from 73% in 2000. By comparison, 66% of adults use the internet, up from 56% in 2000.

* 51% of teenage internet users, or about 11 million users, say they go online on a daily basis, up from 42% in 2000.

* 43% of this age group have made purchases online. That means there are 9 million teen shoppers in America!
The study also included anecdotal comments taken in 4 focus groups of teenagers.

“I know I rely a lot more on the internet for everyday stuff looking up things that you know, I would have to call a couple of people to find out, or [having the ability to do] better research, or instant messaging. I know I rely on the internet a lot more as I’ve gotten older. All my college applications were online and that was so much better.” – High School Female

“I use it more on a daily basis than I did when I was younger. I would get online maybe in the evenings or something, if I had nothing else to do. But now, it’s kind of like you get home, sign-on, turn your music on.” – High School Female

For merchants who market products to teenagers online, we offer seven suggestions that will help your website become a friendly place for a teenage audience to visit.

Teen friendly websites should offer:

1. Fun. Teens are largely looking for entertaining information online. Websites must be rich in content and graphics with creative designs. Websites that offer online games (81% of teens play games online) will have an edge especially if you want to display advertising. (Stay away from pop-ups and anything else annoying)

2. Speed. Teens do everything fast. Make sure graphics are optimized for fast loading. Teen broadband use follows the adult rate of about 50%. That means that the other 50% are using dial-up. A good rule is to optimize all graphics for dial-up speeds to limit click-outs. Keep written content short. Teens scan more than read. Organize all content with short descriptions and bold headings.

3. News. 84% of teens online go to websites about movies, TV shows, music groups, or sports stars. 76% of teens online search for news and current events. 31% are looking for diet, fitness and health information. Fortunately, RSS news feeds (Really Simple Syndication) are readily available online and can add informative dynamic content to your website design.

4. Posting. Teens are very peer conscious and love to express and read the opinions of others. An area for posting comments will provide a service for their researching and expression.

5. Free Stuff. Teens love to customize and express themselves creatively. Free downloads, shareware, screensavers, photo’s, sound effects, games etc., all can draw sizable traffic, especially if you’re researching and tapping into the latest fad items.

6. Homework Help. Research links, government guides, U.S. history, politics, current events, math helps, all provide assistance to teens who must complete homework assignments every day. If you can help them accomplish this, you will draw them back again and again.

7. Great Products. Books, clothing and music are top sellers with teens. Anything with a ‘cute’ factor is big with teen girls. Companies with affiliate programs such as Amazon, or Commission Junction can give you the code and graphics to sell any item in the world for a percentage of the profits.

Removing Emotional Blocks To Success

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

The single biggest impediment to any individual’s ability to achieve success in any area of their life is the presence of emotional blocks that prevent them from actualizing their dreams.

Emotional blocks can take many forms. Some of them are:

1. The Fear of Change.

2. The Fear of Failure.

3. The Fear of Disappointment.

4. The Fear of Making Mistakes.

5. The Fear of Taking Responsibility.

6. The Emotional Need For Certainty.

7. Self Doubt.

8. Low Self Confidence.

9. Low Self Esteem.

10. Low Self Worth.

11. The Fear of Success.

There are many more that I’m sure you have either experienced or can name.

All emotional blocks arise as a result of one’s early life history accumulated and stored as memories in the mind/body. Such memories act to limit and constrain one’s “playing field of life”.

In other words the limitations that any individual experiences are not due to external constraints as is commonly thought rather they are instead due to this invisible yet ever present “net” of conditioned internal mental and emotional blocks that were acquired early in life.

Many are acquired so early that often the individual has no conscious recollection of the memories associated with them. Instead they become integrated into what the individual considers their personality only to find out years later, if at all, how their life has followed a definite but restricted course.

Those who feel the constraints and wish to move beyond them often turn to coaches or psychologists who attempt to help them move past such limitations.

Unfortunately the coaching and/or therapies offered have one significant limitation in themselves. What is that you ask?

Well what most coaching or therapy misses out is the fact that after all of the work is done the offending memory remains stored within the client and has the potential to rear its head again whenever the client tries to push past the limitations imposed by it.

In order to remedy this problem it becomes imperative to completely “release” the memory from the mind and body at all levels.

Releasing it means that the individual will then experience the event as if it never happened to them!

Now for some this may sound somewhat radical. After all why would anyone wish to release what they consider a part of themselves, something they identify themselves with?

Well that is exactly my point. When you identify yourself with say your so-called personality, which is the result of your life history, you are inherently bound by it. Therein lays the limitation!

In order to free yourself from such limitations you have to step out of your limiting personality and transform yourself into a more capable individual. This might be analogous to taking on a new yet more empowered identity. In order to do so however one needs to “break out” of the limitations of the old personality altogether.

In other words it is not sufficient to pretend that you are someone else or to learn new skills. The personality itself must be cracked and shed like a snake’s skin in order to allow a new way of being to come into being.

The only way to do this is to release your identification with your so called past and therefore release it from within yourself.

A new process called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP) one of the most powerful personal growth tools known on this planet was devised for this exact purpose. I have written extensively about here in this ezine.

If you would like to experience MRP and release your limiting emotional blocks kindly visit the web link below.

Boost Your Sex Life the Natural Way: A Look at Some Natural Aphrodisiacs

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

There are many well-known ways to boost a sagging libido, from oysters to zinc to Viagra. But what about some holistic alternatives?

Dr. Hyla Cass of the UCLA School of Medicine and co-author of Natural Highs joined Balance television host Dr. Marla Shapiro to take a look at some natural aphrodisiacs.

“First of all, with age our libidos go south — estrogen, progesterone and especially testosterone in men and women,” Cass said.

To combat a low sex drive, Cass first recommends eating right and getting enough fatty acids in your diet. “Fish oil particularly or flax oil because that’s a precursor to the sex hormones.”

There are a lot of herbs that actually enhance sexuality, Cass said. Here are a few:

Sex-Boosting Herbs

• Chrysanthemum
• Cistanches
• Cordyceps
• Epimedium (a mushroom)
• Jujube

You can get these herbs throught the shops on Everything Health and Beauty: http://www.everythinghealthandbeauty.9k.com

So is there any concern that you can take too much or that these herbs can have side effects?

“It’s always good to talk to your doctor when you’re on medication and taking an herb,” Cass said.

Some herbs, Cass noted, actually act on the hormones themselves while others work on the circulatory system. The good news is that instead of side-effects, some of the herbs have side-benefits.

“A lot of these actually lower your blood pressure,” she said. “So if you tend to have hypertension this will actually bring your blood pressure down in a much more natural way.”

As for fragrance and aromatherapies, each individual has his or her own individual chemistry and things that they will prefer. But the following standards, Cass said, traditionally affect the emotional system, going “right into our emotional body and into our sensuality…and turn us on.”

Stimulating Scents

• Ylang-Ylang
• Rose
• Patchouli
• Sandalwood
• Jasmine
• Vanilla
• Musk
• Cinnamon
• Coriander

As far as food goes, chocolate, particularly for women, is a sensuality enhancer, Cass said. Dark chocolate is probably better because you get more of the actual chocolate and less of the sugar, fat and other things.

Berries, bananas, peaches and other fruits are more about how you eat them rather then their composition, she said.

“Think of feeding each other berries, feeding each other a ripe peach or apricot,” she said. “There’s something very sensual about that. It’s part of the foreplay.”

Investing in the Casinos

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

As the global stock market has evolved, so too have the trading practices. One of the areas international investors have been looking at closely as of late is the online gaming businesses.

Currently, the market value of the online gaming and poker industry is estimated at around 10 billion USD and is expected to grow to closer to 100 Billion in the next 10 years.

And that, according to onlinecasinoreports.com is a fairly conservative estimate. If all goes well, and the companies continue to trade at around 15-20% of their earnings, the potential for growth could potentially reach 2 Trillion USD.

While the passage of the UIGEA in 2006 caused stock in the poker industry, at least in the US, to drop drastically, they have been on a steady climb as a whole despite the recent 2008 downturn.

Some economists call these companies an investment oasis in a time where the rest of the poker market is struggling.

As far as short versus long term investing goes, market indicators show that these investments are most suited for longer term goals, as a dramatic short selling could actually drive the prices down substantially.

This is especially true for US investors looking for long term safe havens for their cash. And in a market where the credit crunch is hitting doubly hard with the falling housing market, it seems that assurance and confidence is just what these investors need.

Contact Lens Tips for Comfort

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Contact lenses can literally be a “real pain” if misused, so following are some tips for contact lens wearers, to help keep your eyes comfortable and happy!

** Replace your contacts as recommended by the manufacturer & your eye care professional. Don’t stretch extended wear, which is usually 2 weeks, to 4 weeks and those of you with the monthly disposables….don’t go over one month! Also, it’s not a good idea to wear them nonstop without taking them out and cleaning them.

** Never swap contacts with another person.

** Always keep a spare pair of glasses with a current prescription, in case of emergency.

** If your eyes become irritated or bother you at all, take them out & give your eyes a break. If it’s more than tired eyes, or more than just a little irritated, remove them & check with your doctor.

** Use only FDA approved lenses.

** Make sure your hands are clean before handling your lenses.

** Don’t let the tip of your solution bottles come in contact with any surface, and only use sterile saline solutions meant for your lenses. Throw out any expired solutions.

** Read the labels on your solutions. Some shouldn’t be used directly in your eyes and not all solutions are good for all contacts.

** When inserting your lenses, try to do so in the same order each time, to avoid mix ups. And always check each lens for particles or tears.

** Apply one or two drops of lens lubricant if they feel dry.

** Remember, there is nothing wrong with giving your eyes a rest from contact lenses, even if just overnight. Your eyes need a break, and some oxygen, especially if you are exposed irritants such as smoke, dust, fumes from paint, gasoline, even hair spray!

Lisa T. has been a contact lens wearer for over 25 years and provides contact lens resources on Comfy Contacts.

Credit And Debt Management

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Today’s consumers benefit drastically from the usefulness of credit. Credit cards are especially useful for large purchases, emergency situations, reservations, identification, and protection from fraud. Unfortunately, millions of consumers abuse credit cards beyond their financial earnings. The use of credit results in costly interest payments and late fees, impulse buying, overextended lifestyles, and the unnecessary stress from harassing telephone calls from collectors.

Do You Think You Might Have a Problem with Debt?

Below is a list that will help determine whether you are a single mother debt problems.

Over the Limit Credit Card Spending

If all of your credit card balances are greater than 80 percent of your credit limits, you should consider this a danger signal to debt.

Too Many Cards/Too Much Debt

If you can’t pay off your combined credit card debt within one year, you should consider this a serious issue.

Out of Money

Many people use credit for small purchases such as food and gas. If you previously paid cash for these or other small items, but are now using credit, not debit or cash, it could be a sign that there is a problem.

High Debt-to-Income Ratio

Your debt-to-income ratio measures the amount of debt you have against the amount of income you are making. You can calculate this ratio by dividing your total monthly debt payment (excluding mortgage/rent) by your total monthly gross income (before taxes). If your debt-to-income ratio is close to or over 20 percent, this is a sign that you may have a debt problem.

Emergencies

Crises and emergency situations do occur, and sometimes people are unable to afford such things such as emergency auto repairs or medical expenses because their credit cards are tapped or the majority of their earnings are put towards debt repayments. It’s always important to keep an open line of credit available for such situations.

Minimum Payments

What many people don’t realize about revolving credit card bills is that making only the minimum payment can take 12 to 15 years to repay. You are not applying any significant amount toward the principal if you are only making minimum payments concluding that you may be overextended and in need of putting together a spending plan.

Using Your Credit to Make Payments on Other Cards

Taking cash advances to pay bills is not a solution for paying off debts. If you are paying one credit card with another you are actually creating more debt. You will also be faced with any cash advance fees and interest from that new line of credit.

Balance Transfers

Many creditors offer new credit cards with balance transfers available at low interest rates for only a limited introductory period. It’s important to remember, though, that after the introductory period the interest rate usually skyrockets up to 19 percent or more. As well, a growing number of credit cards are associating fees with transferring balances.

Skipping Payments

If you are late with getting payments in such as your mortgage, rent, car loan, or utility bills more than once per year and are juggling bills and skipping payments, this is a definite sign that you have a debt problem.

Borrowing Money

If you are borrowing money from family and friends and unable to pay them back while struggling to pay your bills, credit counseling can teach you how to budget or advise you to go on a plan for paying off your debts.

Debt Consolidation Loans

Are you borrowing from a new source to pay off an old debt? Many people who do so obtain debt consolidation loans to pay off all their existing bills. However, once the bills are paid off, some people wind up charging on their credit cards again. This means having to pay back the loan plus the new credit card charges, which ends up driving people into further debt. Learn more about debt consolidation at Incharge.

Unsure of the Amount Owed

If you have no idea how much debt you owe on a monthly basis and keep using credit cards, your financial spending might be slipping out of your control. If you noticed that you were nodding your head up and down as you read through the list of debt problems you could be on your way to a serious problem with your finances. What to do about it as a single mother comes next.

Help for Single Mother if in Debt

If you’re ready to tackle your own debt pile, here’s what you need to do:

Get to know your debt

Study everything relevant about your debt such as your account balances, the interest rates, if the interest is deductible, how and when those rates can change and find out if you’ll face any kind of penalties for paying an account early. If youre not sure call your lender and ask.

Prioritize your debt

Divide your debts into two piles

The 7 Principles of a Successful Affiliate Marketer

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

There are certain affiliate principles that are common to all extremely successful affiliates. These principles are not plainly stated by these successful affiliates; rather, they are found as characteristics in their work, writings and interviews.

I have synthesized these principles into a list I call The 7 Principles of the Successful Affiliate. It important to note that each successful affiliate closely and meticulously adheres to each one of these affiliate principles.

Some of these principles may seem ridiculously obvious, but you would be amazed at how many affiliate marketers either…

-don’t know these principles (failure to read and study)

-skip or skimp on them (take the easy or cheap route)

-or, ignore them altogether (“I’m going to do it my way.”)

…resulting in their own failure or greatly diminished profits. If you are involved in affiliate program marketing and want to greatly improve your results, you must learn and follow these affiliate principles.

1. Successful Affiliate Program Marketing requires work. You must treat it as a job. It is not a pastime. It is not a hobby. It is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It is not a “do nothing, make money” proposition. It requires hard work on your part. The harder you work, the more sales you will make.

2. Successful Affiliate Program Marketing requires financial investments. You must be willing to spend money to make money.
