I once saw a man eat half a wheel of cheese that had been sandwiched between two pieces of oak furniture. It was perhaps one of the most bizarre things I’d ever laid eyes on. He just up and ate actual wood furniture. It was an amazing sight. I can understand the vague direction from which he was coming. I mean, we all know you can have cheese on crackers, but cheese on furniture, and the furniture in question is made from wood? I just couldn’t believe it, it was sheer madness. Upon noticing me looking at him, the man enquired as to if I would like to try some. I politely declined and told him that I wasn’t particularly a fan of the type of cheese he was eating. A puzzled look came across his face and he then clarified that it wasn’t actually cheese, but just a different type of wood. So there I was, watching a man eat one big wheel of wood that so happened to be sandwiched between two other similar pieces of wood. I asked if the splinters ever became a problem and he proceeded to explain – at length – that if he chewed thoroughly enough and used only his teeth – rather than his tongue – to eat, then the splinters were just ground up and it was all good.
